My name is Alexa Young
From a very young age, I have been passionate about many forms of art, particularly photography and performing arts. In high school, I dreamed of making my career in art, but I let imposter syndrome get the best of me. My younger brother, Benjamin, was always my biggest supporter, urging me to create a business for myself. I ultimately went on to build a rewarding career as an educator, caring for many children and families in multiple capacities, another of my many passions.
I have struggled with my mental health my whole life and have survived multiple suicide attempts. In 2021, my brother passed away to suicide. His death was a catalyst for many changes in my life. Ultimately, I realized that I didn't have that many photos of him, and the ones that I did have were mostly poor quality. I was grateful to have them, but it broke my heart a little. I felt a clear message from him to "stop and smell the roses" and create meaningful art for others through photography, as well as actively advocating for mental health.
